On October 3, 2024, PESACO conducted an essential cyberbullying awareness session at Mbezi Inn Secondary School in Dar es Salaam. With over 36 students in attendance, the workshop focused on educating young people about the dangers of cyberbullying and the steps they can take to protect themselves online.
The session opened with students forming groups to discuss their thoughts on cyberbullying, then presenting their insights to everyone. This activity allowed facilitators to gauge the students' awareness of the topic. Advocate Catherine Oscar from PESACO followed with a comprehensive presentation, covering key aspects such as the definition, types, causes, impacts, and ways to address cyberbullying.
Afterward, Mr. Mfaume Hassan provided an overview of the legal protections available against cyberbullying. Social Welfare Officer Madam Jacqueline Mallya from Ubungo Municipality then offered advice on supporting victims, and Inspector of Police Judith Maimu concluded with practical steps for handling cyberbullying cases. Each segment included a Q&A session, enabling students to engage with the experts and deepen their knowledge.
At the end of the session, teachers and students committed to sharing the knowledge they gained with others. They pledged to promote cyber safety through school clubs and morning assemblies, ensuring an ongoing conversation about the issue.A special thank you goes out to Mbezi Inn Secondary School for welcoming this important initiative. PESACO appreciates your efforts in creating a safe space for students to learn about and engage with critical issues like cyberbullying. We look forward to working together again to continue empowering Tanzanian youth.
