On October 12, 2024, PESACO hosted a cyberbullying awareness workshop at Mugabe Secondary School, located near Shekilango, Ubungo, Dar es Salaam. The session, attended by over 36 students and 4 teachers, focused on among others, the emotional toll of cyberbullying and how it can affect students’ self-esteem and mental health.
Students first gathered in groups to discuss cyberbullying, later sharing their perspectives with the larger audience. This activity helped facilitators gauge their initial understanding of the issue. Advocate Catherine Oscar from PESACO then led an informative presentation, covering essential topics like the definition, types, causes, effects, and strategies to address cyberbullying. Following her presentation, Mr. Mfaume Hassan discussed the legal protections related to cyberbullying.
Social Welfare Officer Madam Jacqueline Mallya from Ubungo Municipality provided guidance on supporting victims, and Inspector of Police Judith Maimu wrapped up with practical advice on handling cyberbullying cases. Each part ended with a Q&A, allowing students to interact directly with the experts and deepen their understanding.
PESACO thanks Mugabe Secondary School for its hospitality and support in hosting the awareness session. Your dedication to providing a safe learning environment is commendable, and we are grateful for your partnership in this important cause.
