PESACO Participates in the “Shule Salama” Project at Ndugumbi Primary School

In an era where the internet is a gateway to both opportunity and risk, ensuring children’s online safety has never been more critical. Recognizing this, PESACO recently participated in the Shule Salama Project at Ndugumbi Primary School, with a mission to educate young learners on the importance of cybersecurity and digital well-being.

Creating Awareness: The Need for Online Safety

As digital technology continues to shape our world, children are becoming more exposed to the internet at an early age. While this offers numerous benefits, such as access to information and educational resources, it also comes with risks, including cyberbullying, online harassment, and identity theft. PESACO’s engagement aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the digital space safely.

Empowering Children with Knowledge

During the session, students were introduced to both the advantages and potential dangers of internet use. They were guided on how to:

✅ Identify and avoid online threats
✅ Protect their personal information
✅ Report cases of cyberbullying or inappropriate online behavior

More importantly, the students learned about the legal protections in place to safeguard them online, including the Cybercrimes Act of 2015 and various Regulations under TCRA that promote responsible internet use mainly the Electronic and Postal Communications (Online Content) Regulations, 2020 issued by the Tanzanian Government on 17 July 2020.

Interactive Learning: Encouraging Questions and Dialogue

One of the most impactful aspects of the session was the open discussion between the students and PESACO’s representative. The young learners actively participated by asking questions and sharing their experiences, allowing for real-time clarification and deeper understanding of online safety practices.

Commitment to Continued Education

The overwhelming enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students and teachers reinforced the importance of ongoing digital safety education. PESACO has committed to returning for further training sessions to ensure that students remain informed and empowered to protect themselves in an increasingly digital world.

Building a Safer Digital Future Together

Creating a law-abiding, responsible, and safe online community requires collective effort. PESACO encourages parents, teachers, and community leaders to take an active role in guiding children toward safe and ethical internet use. By working together, we can build a society that prioritizes online safety, awareness, and collaboration for a better digital future.
